Solar Eclipse in Capricorn – December 2019

This is the first new moon with Jupiter in Capricorn – and it’s an eclipse of the Sun. The Sun brings light and warmth to our lives and, at least in a metaphyscial sense, the usual light and warmth is not available this lunar cycle.

It’s a bit of a bummer that it coincides with the major Western secular festival of Christmas which has its roots in the winter solstice birth of the Sun God / divine child.

Of course, here in Australia, it’s high summer. We’re getting heavy Saturnian feedback about the new reality of living with the affects of climate change. Water ways are dry and much of the country is on fire. Even the parts of it that aren’t meant to burn. Bushfire season is now just one continuous bushfire that ebbs and flows like a destructive tide.

Greed is not good and now we live with the consequences.

This eclipse is ground zero for your Jupiter in Capricorn story. It’s not going to be filled with glorious victory and celebration. It’s going to be a long, hard slog, that hopefully offers some value at the end.

When you have a great and difficult task, something perhaps almost impossible, if you only work a little at a time, every day a little, suddenly the work will finish itself.

Even in the realistic (and sometimes pessimistic) environs of Capricorn, Jupiter is still hopeful. Hope here, however, depends on real world evidence and lived experience. Without consistent work to back up those hopeful dreams, your goals quickly evaporate and inertia soon sets in.

To untether the modest gifts of Jupiter in Capricorn, the South Node requires you to release rigid ambition and impractical material goals. Don’t stick to the plan if the plan sucks.

The commonly-discussed material interests of Capricorn are likely to bring more than a few ups-and-downs this eclipse season. Growth and advancement will slow; ambitions will be delayed; contraction of capital likely.

What is on offer is renewed appreciation of the spiritual side of the sea goat. Meditate upon the stoic virtues of courage, temperance, wisdom, and justice. These are enduring qualities that can sustain you throughout your life, independent of your social status in a largely dysfunctional world.

Start making small, incremental changes that bring you closer to living your truest values in practical ways.

Merry Christmas.
